Midland, Texas The Midland City Council has approved critical leadership changes within the City Attorney’s Office, setting the stage for a strategic transition aimed at enhancing the city’s legal oversight and governance.

In a decision reached during the recent council meeting, John Ohnemiller, a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience serving Midland, has been appointed Special Counsel for the City of Midland.

This new role will allow Ohnemiller to provide focused legal guidance in a specialized advisory capacity, ensuring continuity of expertise while adapting to the city’s evolving needs.

Meanwhile, Nicholas Toulet-Crump has been named Interim City Attorney, stepping into a leadership position designed to maintain stability and effective legal management within the City Attorney’s Office. The Council’s confidence in Toulet-Crump’s capabilities reflects a commitment to strong governance and reliable legal counsel during this transitional phase.

The City Council has also authorized the mayor to negotiate and finalize employment agreements for both Ohnemiller and Toulet-Crump, ensuring a seamless and legally sound transition of responsibilities.

It’s important to note that the City Attorney is one of five positions directly appointed by the City Council, alongside the City Governance Officer, City Manager, Presiding Judge, and Associate Judge. This structural authority underscores the importance of the appointments and their impact on the city’s legal and administrative framework.

Midland’s leadership changes come at a time of continued growth and transformation, highlighting the need for experienced legal professionals dedicated to the city’s progress. As these appointments take effect, residents and officials alike will be watching closely to see how the City Attorney’s Office navigates the challenges and opportunities ahead.
